Hannah's First (real) Haircut

Hannah did not want to get a haircut today!  She wouldn't even sit in the chair.  Blair had to get down in the floor to give her a quick trim as she kicked and screamed and I attempted to hold her still.  I guess her only hair-cutting experience to date was a little traumatic. While today was Hannah's first real haircut, James took credit for Hannah's first cut several months ago. One peaceful morning at home, James cut chunks of Hannah's long, pretty curls out of her hair as they were playing in the playroom together.  He used the kitchen scissors to get the job done.  It was awful, and I about died when I saw the clumps of hair on the floor.  I found a trail of hair from the playroom sofa all the way down the hall to the boys' bathroom.  James was so proud of himself. About a third of her volume was missing on the back right side.  In the moment of all the kicking and screaming today I didn't realize it, but now I kind of understand why Hannah was not wanting a haircut.

We celebrated Hannah's 3rd birthday with a family party at home.  Hannah wore a birthday girl sash and tiara, and she held her star wand in her hand throughout the party.  Since our girl loves Polly and her stuffed Puppyrella, we ordered her a "nilla" cake with buttercream iced puppy dogs decorated on top.  Hannah loved her "dir-day" cake.  We had ice cream and bottled cokes with hot pink polka dot straws to go with the cake.  The kitchen table was decorated with hot pink streamers and Paw Patrol plates, napkins, and masks.  James helped Hannah open her gifts.  She got a stuffed miniature schnauzer pet and carrier from Mimi and Grandy that she named after Polly.  Hannah was thrilled to have her own Polly dog!  Nana and Granddaddy gave Hannah an Ana and Elsa scooter and helmet.  Hannah enjoyed riding it around the kitchen island as soon as Will got it assembled.  Mommy, Daddy, and the brothers gave Hannah a pink tutu and tights.  Hannah called it "my ballet" as she twirled around on her toes in the kitchen.  She is looking forward to starting ballet in just a few months.

As soon as school got out, we headed to Mimi and Grandy's condo in Orange Beach.  The boys loved playing and building things in the sand.  Hannah did not really like the sand, so she spent most of her time sunbathing on her towel.  On the 27th, we helped Mimi and Grandy celebrate their 46th wedding anniversary with dinner at Cobalt.  Everyone got desserts to split.  Weston and I took care of the chocolate cake!

Connor and Weston had award's day on the last day of school.  Connor got the Noble Eagle award for athleticism and good sportsmanship.  His character trait was loyalty.  He also made A's all year on his report cards.  Weston made the Superintendent's Honor Roll (A's all year), which begins in 3rd grade.  This was a big accomplishment, because he worked hard for it.  He learned how to make notecards and study independently--a skill that he will continue to use as he gets older.  Weston's character trait was compassion.  He also received the Fruit of the Spirit Award, a special character recognition for demonstrating the fruits of the Spirit.  This was also his first year to get a perfect attendance certificate. Connor and Weston both got a swimming certificate for participating on the TCPS swim team.  Will and I were very proud of our boys.  Hard work and good character will take them far in life.

James's Mother's Day Tea

James's preschool class held a Mother's Day Tea.  I got to enjoy brunch with my Jamesey-Love and hear him sing songs.  He chose to wear a tie for the occasion, so he made a really handsome date.  He gave me special handmade gifts.  I'm so thankful I got to spend the morning with him and his friends.  I'm even more thankful that God gave me my Jamesey-Love!  He truly is a special gift.
